Improving Your Golf Club Swing

One of the main areas that most golfers everywhere are constantly looking to improve on is their swing. There are thousands of books, magazines, articles and online resources providing tips on how to swing your golf clubs properly.

Here are a few very simple tips on how you can quickly improve your swing:

  • Observe others. When you’re on the golf course or at the driving range take the time to look around and see how other golfers swing their golf clubs. Watch for body position, stance, how high they lift the club and the motions used when they swing the club. Take note of the golfers on the greens who are making good shots. Are there things that they are doing which you can incorporate the next time into your swing? Golfers are normally a friendly bunch. Why not approach a golfer whose performance you admire. Ask for tips and advice on how you can improve on your own swing. More often than not, a golfer you approach will feel flattered to hear compliments on their swing and will be glad to share his own experiences on how he was able to develop his swing.

  • Observe the pros. When watching a golf match on television or at a live tournament, observe the swings of the professionals. Many professionals have come out with their own books or sometimes share their tips in magazines and online articles. Take the time to research and read up on their tips. Their advice can prove to be quite valuable.

  • Mimic. Once you are able to gather information and advice from fellow golfers, written resources, and from the pros – mimic them. Remember no two golfers are alike. What may work for one may not work for others. See which tips and instructions work for you. And which do not.

  • Observe yourself. While it’s easy to watch how others play the game, I bet you haven’t really observed how you play and swing. Stand in front of a mirror and take practice swings. Try to take note of the things that you are doing wrong. Even better is if you can video yourself during one of your regular golf games either at the golfing range or golf course. You will be able to observe yourself in a natural golfing environment and pinpoint the things you are doing right and wrong.
The final most important tips is practice, practice, practice. You can never have too much practice. Once you have identified the appropriate techniques and tips on how to improve your golf club swing, put them to work. Practice as often as you can until your best golf club swing become second nature. Before you know it, someone will be approaching YOU on the greens asking for tips. Happy golfing!

The Basics of Golf Clubs

Many beginners are confused as to what golf clubs they should buy. I don’t blame them. With so many wedges, irons, putters, woods, graphite shafts, steel shafts and hybrid clubs to choose from, it’s easy for a beginner to get lost in a sea of clubs.

There are three basic elements to understanding golf clubs:

  • What is a set of clubs? A set of clubs is made up of Woods, Irons, Wedges and Putters. You may have noticed golfers and their golf bags. A golf bag can normally hold 14 clubs. The type of clubs you have in your bag is entirely up to you. Most golfers carry in their bag a Driver, a Wood, Irons, Pitching Wedge, Gap Wedge, Sand Wedge, Lob Wedge and a Putter. Some golfers also have a Hybrid club, which is a cross between woods and irons.

  • Set of clubs for novices. For new golfers, it is usually recommended that you buy a complete set instead of attempting to put one together yourself. Assembling your own set can be a daunting task, especially if you don’t know the difference between a wood and iron. So save yourself the trouble and buy a complete starter set.

  • A starter set of golf clubs usually consists of 12 clubs, which includes a Driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 3 thru 9 irons, a pitching wedge and a putter. As your game improves, you may decide to add another iron or wedge.

  • New or used clubs? Many golfers starting out in the game make the mistake of buying top of the line, expensive clubs. For novice golfers, it’s a good idea to research first on less expensive clubs or search for used clubs. Once you become more familiar with the game, you may then decide to upgrade your set of clubs. Or if you realise that golf isn’t your sport, at least you won’t feel that you wasted your money on expensive clubs.
There are three basic elements to understanding golf clubs. If you are really interested in moving from novice to expert golfer, research the best golf clubs for you. Read your favourite golf magazines or books, research the various golf club models online, and ask fellow golfers about the best clubs out there. But more importantly, go out on the greens and practise your swing. Only you can truly know which golf club best suits you.

Golf Club Shopping 101

Buying a set of golf clubs is no easy task. In fact, if you're looking to buy a golf club as a gift we suggest you think again! One of these golf prints from Sport Photo Gallery might be less risky and more appreciated. You could say that buying a golf club is pretty much like buying a new or used car – in that you need to make a lot of serious considerations.

This goes against the notion a lot of people have about golf clubs. Your see, the ordinary person thinks that golf clubs are all the same. You know, a stick and a hook. Some children we know even use an umbrella to imitate their dad.

Which brings us back to our original point. Golf club purchases are a serious business. So, when looking around for golf clubs, you may want to consider the following:

Your budget: yes, you’ve heard this point all too many times before. But whether you like it or not, it is very true. And very important. Most of us can’t seem to find the seeds to that money tree. This means having to spend your hard-earned cash wisely. Beginners may want to get a starter set. These are affordable golf clubs that are also “kinder” on their game.

Your Goals: yes, your golf goals. Ask yourself whether or not you are playing a friendly round of golf with the boss? Or are you planning to make this a profession? This will likewise aid you in your purchase. If you plan to join the Masters, then investing in the best golf clubs wouldn’t be a bad idea. Just make sure you’ve got the physical stamina and of course the “game” to go with it.

Next thing to consider is whether or not you should purchase new or used golf clubs. This is purely a matter of budget really. Either way, just make sure you are getting your money’s worth.

You then need to know the various kinds of golf clubs. But of course, what were you thinking? Did you honestly think that you could simply go to a golf shop and ask for a pair of golf clubs? Of course not. At the very least, you may want to learn such things as shaft flex, HRC Hardness and elongation, among other things.

These are just some things to consider when choosing golf clubs. Remember again to choose wisely. Doing so can actually spell the outcome of your game. And just like your car, the right golf clubs will give a lot of smiles per swing. And hopefully, a lot of lower handicaps as well.
